Dryer drum not turning but the motor runs
The belt wraps around the dryer drum and the motor pulley, turning the drum so clothes tumble through the warm air. When it snaps, the motor often keeps running while the drum stays still, and clothes come out hot in a damp clump. A stretched or glazed belt slips instead, causing squealing at start-up or a drum that turns slowly and stalls under a heavy load. Turn the drum by hand to check. With a good belt it should feel firm rather than spinning freely.

Fitting a new dryer belt
Unplug the dryer before opening it up. Note how the old belt runs around the motor pulley and the idler or tensioner, and take a photo if you can. Fit the ribbed side of the new belt against the drum and pulley, set it on the tensioner, then turn the drum by hand a few times to centre it before reassembling.
