Oven functions not working properly?
Each position on the function knob tells the selector switch which elements, fan and light to power. As contacts inside the switch burn or wear, some functions stop working while others carry on as normal. Typical signs are the grill working but not fan bake, the oven light coming on with no heat, functions that only work if the knob is jiggled, a burnt smell near the controls, or the oven tripping the power on one setting. Before replacing elements, rule out the selector switch, especially if more than one function has failed at once.

Replacing the selector switch
Isolate the oven at the switchboard before removing the control panel, and use a licensed electrician if the oven is hard-wired. Label every wire or photograph the terminal positions on the old switch, as one wire in the wrong place can damage elements or the fan. Move the wires across one at a time, refit the knob and test each function in turn.
