Oven not heating from the bottom? Check the lower element
On conventional and bottom heat settings, the lower element provides most of the heat, so a failure shows up quickly. Cakes and pies come out pale and undercooked underneath, the oven struggles to reach temperature, or it only heats properly when the grill or fan is running. Sometimes you'll smell burning or see a flash when the element shorts out, and the safety switch may trip. Measuring resistance across the terminals with the power off will tell you if the element is open circuit.

Replacing the bottom element
Switch the oven off at the isolator and confirm it's dead before you touch any wiring. Hard-wired ovens need a licensed electrician in Australia. The lower element is usually reached by pulling the oven out and removing the rear or base cover. Snap a photo of the terminals, swap the leads across and put any insulation or retaining clips back exactly where they came from.
