What the heat exchanger outlet valve does
Many Bosch dishwashers have a heat exchanger, a water tank built into the side wall that holds cold water to help with drying and pre-warming. This solenoid valve opens to empty that tank into the sump at set points in the program. When it fails, the machine's water levels get out of step, which can show up as error codes, poor drying, water left in the tub or odd filling behaviour. A leaking valve can also let water into the base and trip the anti-flood protection.

Replacing the outlet valve
Switch the dishwasher off at the wall and turn off the water tap. Pull the machine out from the cabinet and lay towels down, as the heat exchanger and hoses may still hold water. Take photos of the hose and wiring connections before removing the old valve. Fit the new one, check every clamp, then run a short program and watch for leaks.
