Behind the fan cover at the back of the oven sits a circular element that heats the air as the fan blows it around the cavity. That is what drives the hot air cooking modes. When the element fails, the fan keeps running but the oven barely warms, cooking takes far longer, or the safety switch trips when a fan setting is chosen. Top and bottom heat may still work, which helps narrow the fault to this element. Visible blistering or a break in the coil confirms it.

Changing the fan element
Built-in ovens are usually hard-wired, so this should be fitted by a licensed electrician with the circuit isolated. The oven normally needs to come out of its cabinet to reach the rear terminals. Inside, remove the fan cover and the element screws, photograph the wiring at the back before disconnecting it, then reverse the steps. Check the fan spins freely past the new element and test on a fan setting.
