Cracked or missing rangehood light cover
Heat from the globe and the cooking below slowly makes a light diffuser brittle and discoloured, and a knock while cleaning is often enough to crack it. Running the hood without a cover leaves the globe and lamp holder open to grease and steam, which shortens globe life and can lead to corroded contacts and a light that flickers or won't come on. A matching cover also gives softer, more even light over the cooktop and keeps the hood looking tidy.

Fitting the lens cover
Turn the rangehood off and let the globe cool before you start, as it gets very hot. Remove what's left of the old cover, check the globe and holder for grease or damage, and replace the globe now if it's tired. Line the new lens up with its mounting points and press or twist it into place until it sits firmly.
