Signs of a faulty water level pressure switch

A small hose runs from the bottom of the tub to the pressure switch. As water rises, it compresses the air in that hose, and the switch turns the pressure into a level reading. If the sensor fails or the hose is blocked, the machine can't tell how much water it has. It may overfill, stop filling too early, refuse to heat, drain and refill repeatedly, or stop with a water level or heater fault code. A blocked or split air hose causes the same faults, so check it before replacing the switch.

Fitting the pressure switch

Unplug the machine at the wall and turn off the taps before removing the top or rear panel. The switch is usually mounted high in the cabinet with a small air hose attached. Photograph the wiring plug and hose position, then transfer them to the new switch. With the hose off, blow gently through it to make sure it's clear, refit it and run a short program to check the fill level.
