Signs the bottom element in your Emilia oven has failed

The lower element provides the heat for conventional baking, warming the oven from underneath so cakes, bread and roasts cook through from the bottom. When it burns out, the oven may still grill or fan bake, but anything relying on bottom heat comes out pale and undercooked underneath, and preheating takes far longer or never reaches temperature. Look for a visible break, blistering or a burnt spot on the element sheath. If the oven trips the safety switch the moment it's turned on, the element has likely shorted to earth.

Replacing the lower element

Isolate the oven at the switchboard first, as most ovens are hard-wired. On many ovens the bottom element sits under the oven floor and is reached from the back or through the base. Photograph the wiring before disconnecting, check the terminals for heat damage and replace any that are burnt. Hard-wired ovens must be reconnected by a licensed electrician.
