Signs your oven door seal has worn out
The door seal closes the gap between the oven door and the front of the cavity, holding heat inside so the oven reaches temperature quickly and cooks evenly. With age it hardens, flattens, tears or comes loose at the corners. Heat then escapes around the door, which you'll notice as scorching or discolouration on the knobs and control panel, steam or smoke venting around the door edge, longer cooking times, and food that browns unevenly near the front. A seal that's brittle or crumbles when pressed should be replaced.

Fitting the door seal
Make sure the oven is off at the wall or switchboard and completely cold. Note how the old seal is held, usually by hooks or clips that push into holes around the cavity, and whether its join sits at the top or bottom. Pull it out gently and clean the channel. Start fitting at the corners, working along each side so the seal sits evenly without stretching, then close the door to check it seals all the way round.
