Product details
Here's the genuine 083122200 nut for the thermocouple on Belling gas cooking appliances, from the Glen Dimplex parts range. The thermocouple is the flame failure safety device, and this nut holds its connection firm. A stripped or missing nut can leave the thermocouple loose, so the burner won't stay alight. Check the size and thread against your old nut, or confirm the number on your parts list, before you order.
Gas burner goes out when you let go of the knob
A thermocouple sits in the flame and makes a tiny voltage when it's hot. That voltage holds the gas valve open, and if the flame goes out the valve shuts off the gas. The connection has to be tight and clean, because the signal is very small. Depending on the design, the nut holds the thermocouple where its lead joins the gas valve or where the probe mounts beside the burner. A loose, cross threaded or corroded nut can make the burner drop out once the knob is released, or stay lit only while held in.

- Gas work by a licensed gas fitter
Fitting must be done by a gas fitter
Gas connections in Australia must be worked on by a licensed gas fitter. Turn off the gas supply and switch the appliance off at the wall before starting. The nut should be tightened firmly but not forced, as over tightening can damage the thermocouple tip or the valve. After fitting, the gas fitter will test the burner lights, stays lit and that there are no leaks.
Questions about this part
Do I need a new thermocouple as well?
Not always. If the thermocouple tip is clean and undamaged and the burner only failed because the connection was loose, a new nut may fix it. A burnt, bent or cracked thermocouple should be replaced, and your gas fitter can test its output.
