Product details

Genuine Belling thermocouple 083007500 is the flame sensing safety part for a gas burner. Its tip sits beside the flame and its lead runs back to the gas tap. Our records don't list the length or the burner it serves, and Belling uses several thermocouples that look alike, so compare the length and fittings of your old one or confirm 083007500 in your parts list.

Burner won't stay alight?

Flame failure protection relies on this part. While the burner is lit, heat on the thermocouple tip produces a tiny current that keeps the gas tap's safety valve open. When the flame is blown out or a pot boils over, the tip cools and the valve closes so unburnt gas can't escape. As a thermocouple ages its output falls, and the burner starts dropping out a few seconds after you release the knob, or only stays lit while you hold it down. Food and grease on the tip can mimic the fault, so clean it first.

Who should fit it

Australian rules require a licensed gas fitter to replace flame failure devices. The gas is turned off and the cooktop isolated from power first. The new thermocouple must follow the same path as the old one, with its tip held in the same spot in the flame, and the connection at the tap is checked for leaks. Ask your fitter to confirm the valve shuts once the flame is put out.
