Oven functions not working or knob turning without effect?
The selector switch sits behind the function knob and decides which elements and fans get power for each cooking mode, such as fan forced, grill or bake. Its contacts carry heavy current, so they can burn, pit or weld together over time. Signs include a function that no longer heats, the wrong element coming on, the oven light or fan working on some positions only, a crackling or burning smell from behind the knob, or a knob that spins loosely without clicking through positions. Check the elements first, as a blown element gives similar symptoms.

Fitting the selector switch
Ovens are usually hard-wired, so this work should be done by a licensed electrician with the circuit isolated at the switchboard. Pull the knob off, remove the control panel and photograph the switch from several angles, as each wire must go back on the same terminal. Compare the terminal layout and shaft of the new switch with the old one before moving any wires. Test every function once it is reassembled.
