Turning the function knob rotates this switch, which connects the right combination of elements, fan motor and oven light for the mode you've picked. Burnt or worn contacts cause some functions to stop heating while others work, the oven to heat on the wrong element, or nothing to happen at all in certain positions. You may also see scorching on the switch body or terminals, or feel the knob turning loosely without clear clicks between settings. When the elements and thermostat test fine, the selector switch is the next suspect.

Swapping the selector switch
Turn the oven off at the switchboard before removing the knobs and control panel. A selector has a lot of wires, so photograph them from a couple of angles or label each one before disconnecting. Move the wires across one at a time to the matching terminals on the new switch, refit the panel and check every function heats as it should. If the oven is hard-wired, leave the reconnection to a licensed electrician.
