Worn oven door seal symptoms
The seal closes the gap between the door and the oven front, keeping the heat inside the cavity. Once it hardens, flattens or tears, hot air leaks out around the door. You'll notice the outside of the door and the knobs getting hotter than they used to, steam or condensation escaping at the top of the door, longer preheat times and uneven cooking near the front. Grease and food that bake onto the seal also stop it closing tightly, so check for cracks and gaps when you clean the oven.

Fitting the new door seal
Make sure the oven is off and cold. Note how the old seal is held, as most use clips pushed into holes in the oven front. Pull it out gently, clean the groove, then start the new seal at the top centre and work around, pushing each clip home. Leave the join where the original one was and close the door to check it seals evenly.
