Rangehood not pulling smoke or dripping grease?

The mesh filter is the first thing cooking fumes meet. Layers of aluminium mesh catch grease droplets before they reach the fan and ducting. Once a filter is clogged, bent or torn, the hood pulls far less air, so smoke and smells linger in the kitchen. A saturated filter can also drip grease back onto the cooktop and adds to the fire risk above the burners. Filters that have been through the dishwasher many times can discolour and lose their shape, so they no longer sit snugly in the frame. Replacing a damaged panel brings back proper extraction.

Fitting a mesh filter

Switch the rangehood off and let the area cool if you have been cooking. Release the catch on the filter, tilt it down and lift it out of its frame. Fit the new panel with the catch facing outwards so it can be released later, and push it up until it clicks in. Wash mesh filters regularly in hot soapy water to keep the airflow strong.
