Why a cooktop needs a good seal to the benchtop

The gasket fills the gap between the cooktop's rim and the benchtop. It stops liquid from boilovers and wiping from running down into the cupboard, drawer or oven underneath, and helps cushion the hob so it sits flat and quiet. Applying the new gasket

Turn off the power, and the gas at the isolation valve on gas hobs, before lifting the cooktop. Gas and hard-wired cooktops should be removed and refitted by a licensed gas fitter or electrician. Scrape off every trace of the old seal and clean the rim with a degreaser so the adhesive grips. Apply the strip in one continuous run without stretching it, and trim the join neatly.

Measure all four sides of the cooktop rim and add them together. If the total is under 2.8m, one strip will do. Most 60cm cooktops need well under that, but larger hobs should be measured before ordering.
