Bosch washing machine not heating water or tripping the power?
The element sits in the bottom of the outer tub and heats the water for warm and hot wash programs. When it burns out, the machine still washes but everything comes out in cold water, and some models pause for a long time or show an error while waiting for heat. An element that has shorted to earth can trip the safety switch as soon as the heating stage starts. Heavy limescale and detergent build-up on the element shorten its life. A resistance test across the terminals with a multimeter will show whether it has gone open circuit.

Fitting the element
Unplug the washer and turn off both taps. The element is reached through the front or rear panel, depending on the model. Photograph the wiring and note whether a temperature sensor fits into the old element, so it can be moved across if the new one doesn't include one. Loosen the centre nut, ease the old element out, slide the new one in so it engages the bracket inside the tub, then tighten the nut evenly and run a hot wash to check for leaks.
