Product details

Part 001842 is a generic ignition button, a universal style replacement for the push button that fires the ignition on gas appliances. It's an aftermarket part and isn't tied to one appliance brand. Our record doesn't list dimensions, terminal type or whether it's a piezo or switch style button, so compare it closely with the button you're replacing, or send your appliance details through the parts enquiry form.

When a gas ignition button stops sparking

Pressing an ignition button either strikes a piezo crystal or closes a switch that tells a spark generator to fire, and the result is a spark at the electrode beside the burner. Buttons wear out from constant use, from grease and moisture getting inside, or from a cracked housing. A sticky button, one that clicks without producing a spark, one that sparks only sometimes, or a cap that has broken off are all common faults. Before blaming the button, check that the electrode is clean and dry, the gap is right and the lead is intact, as these cause the same symptoms.

Fitting a replacement ignition button

Turn off the gas at the appliance valve or cylinder, and isolate the power if the appliance has a mains powered spark generator. Note how the leads connect to the old button before removing it. Under Australian rules, work on gas appliances should be done by a licensed gas fitter, who can also check that the burner lights cleanly once the new button is in.

Questions about this part

Will this ignition button fit my appliance?

It's a universal style part, so fit depends on the hole size, mounting and terminal connections on your appliance, and we don't have those measurements on file. Compare it with your old button, or send your appliance brand and model through the parts enquiry form and we'll help check.
